I never believed I could win –Onayemi Mojisola, newly crowned Miss Olokun

Indeed it was fun and excitement last weekend
during the grand finale of annual beauty pageant,
Miss Olokun, as Onayemi Olamide Mojisola
emerged winner. The event which was held at R
&A Hotel, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, witnessed a
massive turn out. Entertainer had a chat with
the new beauty queen.
Excerpts:
Tell us about yourself?
My name is Onayemi Olamide Mojisola, graduate
of International Law & Diplomacy from Babcock
University. I am 22-years-old and my dream is to
become a lawyer, judge and motivational
speaker.
How do you feel being crowned Miss Olokun?
I feel excited and cool, I feel on top of the world.
In fact, I feel so happy because I never expected
this at all; I never expected to win. However, as
soon as I obtained the form, I started praying
each minute of every day to my creator. Even
while I was working or in the ladies I prayed to
God and called on the Holy Spirit to come to my
aid. I give glory, honour and adoration to
Almighty God for my victory.
As Queen, what are your plans to promote
Olokun Festival?
Definitely I will do a lot to promote Olokun
Festival especially from a cultural angle. I am
looking beyond the Yoruba culture; I am talking
about the entire world. I plan to conduct a youth
seminar to promote our culture because our
father, Otunba Gani Adams is the chief promoter
of Olokun Festival Foundation.
What’s your advice for young girls who want to
be beauty queens?
They should be prayerful and focus on whatever
they want to do. That is the most important
thing to do because you need to put God first in
whatever you do and then do your possible best.
When it is time to practice, try to be unique and
passionate about it. That all I can say for now.
What do you intend to do with your prize money?
God will lead me on how to handle everything.
My God comes first before any other t h i n g s .
I love helping the less p r i v i l e g e d too, so I
am looking at doing s o m e thing in that di
rection.
What w a s y o u r p a r e n t s ’ reaction w h e n
you told them you wanted to go for the pageant?
My mother is not a pageant person; she was
against it at first and did not support me initially.
When I knew she would not allow me contest, I
fell sick and told Dr. Sunday, the pageant’s
coordinator that I was no more interested but he
encouraged me to come and try my luck. My
friends also told me to continue. Luckily, I later
convinced my mum and she allowed me. She
prayed for me, took me to church for prayers and
encouraged me. My brother was also supportive.
I am so full of Joy today.
What do you think will be your mother’s reaction
now that you have been crowned?
Wow! She will be more excited than I am. She is
such a wonderful and caring mother. I believe
wherever she is now, she will be celebrati
