Learn Africa rewards outstanding Neco students (photos)




3 years ago, Learn Africa Education Development Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Learn Africa (formerly Longman Nigeria Plc.), the foremost learning resource company, instituted the Annual Excellence Awards for students, teachers and schools at the senior secondary level. The objective was and remains to underscore the importance of excellence in education to our national development as well as encourage hard work, diligent scholarship and healthy competition.




The foundation is pleased to announce the fourth edition and have concluded plans to honour students, teachers and schools that posted outstanding performances during the June/July 2015 NECO SSCE examinations.
The awards for Biology and History were introduced last year in honour of the memories of two Nigerians who distinguished themselves in their profession namely;
·         Dr. Stella Adadevohthe brave female doctor who literally resisted the spread of Ebola Virus diseases in the country and contracted the disease in the process, which led to her untimely death.
·         Professor Jacob Ade Ajayi, a one- time Vice chancellor of University of Lagos, was a world renowned historian.
Between Tuesday, 17th November and Wednesday, 2nd December the awards will be presented to students, teachers and schools who by their dint of hard work, diligence, commitment and extra-ordinary achievements have become role models for others. There are two categories of awards – National and State. The national awards will go to the overall best three candidates as follows;
·         Alabi Philip Toluwase of Our Lady & St Francis Catholic College, Osogbo, Osun State (1stposition)

·         Nwaoha Justin Ifeanyi of Isolog College, Ojodu, Lagos State (2nd position)

·         Babalola David Oluwasayo of Oritamefa Baptist Model School, Ibadan, Oyo State (3rdposition).

Regarding state awards, 111 candidates consisting of the three best performing candidates in each state and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja will be recognized and  receive exciting prizes during the presentations. The three best performing candidates in each state will collect their prizes in 13 zonal centers namely Ikeja, Kano, Ibadan, Zaria, Jos, Enugu, Benin, Owerri, Akure, Ilorin, Abuja, Onitsha and Port Harcourt.

Also, one teacher from the school of the first prize winner in each state will receive special recognition during the event in appreciation of their great contributions to the students’ success at the NECO June/July SSCE in 2015. In addition, the Foundation will donate books to the libraries of the schools that produced the three best performing candidates in each state.
