Reading have revealed Chelsea are keen to cut short Michael Hector's loan spell at the club but are adamant he will remain at the Madejski Stadium until the end of the season.
The Blues bought the centre-back from the Royals in the summer and immediately loaned him back to the Championship side on a season-long loan deal.
However, Chelsea's defensive struggles have contributed to their terrible start to the campaign, with the club conceding 23 goals in their opening 13 league games.
As a result, manager Jose Mourinho had been hopeful of bolstering his backline by recalling Hector, but Reading are determined to keep hold of the Jamaica international.
Reading executive Samrit Thanakanchanasut told Leyvine: "Chelsea want him back early but I think we'll retain him as we agreed until the end of the season."The 23-year-old has won the plaudits of Reading boss Steve Clarke, who was previously Mourinho's assistant at Chelsea.
He recently told Getreading: "Michael reads the game well, he sticks his head on the ball, can make tackles and can pass out from the back as well.
"He's got a lot of good attributes which is why Chelsea decided to take him on board. Hopefully he goes on to have a big career with them."
